# Working with an agent

> Use Gatetrix documentation and scoped MCP connections to help an agent set up connections, build dashboards, and work on projects.

Give your agent a concrete outcome and the guide for the app you are using.
The agent can handle much of the setup, but a prompt does not grant access.

## Choose a starting point

| Goal | Guide |
| - | - |
| Connect a service through Access | [Set up a connector with an agent](/access/connectors) |
| Build or import a dashboard | [Build with an agent](/d0/build-with-agent) |
| Work on a project in MTS | [Your first project and teammate](/mts/quickstart) |
| Connect an external agent to MTS | [Connections and agent access](/mts/connections) |

## Understand the different connections

**MCP** is a protocol through which an agent discovers and calls tools. Each
Gatetrix app exposes tools for its own purpose:

* **Access:** use approved connections and, when Configuration Mode allows it,
  prepare connection definitions.
* **d0 Builder:** create and edit dashboard files while Agent editing is enabled.
* **MTS:** read and update project records, claim tasks, and report progress within
  the connection's permissions.

Credentials for these connections are different. A d0 builder credential does
not authorize Access operations, and an MTS connection does not automatically
give an agent access to your other services.

## A useful instruction to include

```text theme={null}
Read the linked Gatetrix guide and discover the tools available in this session.
Use the installed tool schemas and capability responses for exact arguments.
Tell me which prerequisite or permission is missing before changing the scope.
Keep API keys, tokens, and passwords out of chat and generated app files.
Ask me to enter credentials or make approval decisions in the relevant app.
Verify the requested result and report anything that could not be checked.
```

For Access setup, use the [connector prompt](/access/connectors#prompt-for-your-agent).
For dashboard creation, use the [d0 prompt](/d0/build-with-agent#prompt-for-your-agent).

## Read these docs as text

Mintlify provides a Markdown version of each content page by appending `.md` to
its URL. The documentation's `llms.txt` index helps an agent find relevant pages.
Read the short guide first, then retrieve reference pages as needed.

Reader authentication also applies to access by agents. If an agent cannot read
a private page, give it the relevant text or an authorized connection; knowing
the URL does not grant access.

Installed tools can differ by app version and permission. Discover what is
available instead of guessing tool names or copying configuration from a
different user's machine.
