# Run your first dashboard

> Install Gatetrix d0 and run the Hacker News Pulse sample with a reviewed public-data permission.

You need an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 13.5 or newer. This dashboard uses
public data, so you do not need a Gatetrix Access connection or a service API key.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install d0">
    Download [Gatetrix d0](https://gatetrix.ai/download/d0/), open the disk image,
    and install the app in Applications. Open d0.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a sample">
    Open the getting-started guide and install **Hacker News Pulse**.
    It displays public Hacker News data from the Algolia API.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the dashboard">
    Select the installed dashboard and open **Review & Trust**. Check the declared
    public-data host and paths. This sample requests access to
    `hn.algolia.com` under `/api/v1/`; it does not need a Gatetrix Access connection.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Trust and run this version">
    Trust the reviewed version and open it. With an internet connection, the
    dashboard should display Hacker News stories. A preview that has not been
    trusted cannot use the dashboard's live data capabilities.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What happens when a dashboard changes?

d0 associates trust with the dashboard's content. After an agent edits it,
refresh the app and review the new version before enabling its data capabilities.
The builder agent cannot make that trust decision for you.

## Next steps

* [Build a dashboard with an agent](/d0/build-with-agent).
* Use **Import Existing Project** to adapt a dashboard you already have.
* [Connect Access](/d0/connect-access) for a dashboard that needs business data.

If the sample does not load, check connectivity, the selected version, and its
trust state. **Runtime Audit** helps you inspect host calls and denials.
