Access is the permission layer between an agent and the files, apps, and services you connect. You choose the agent profile, available operations, and any approval requirements. The agent calls those tools through MCP or the CLI. The Mac app, iPhone companion, and Mobile API provide interfaces for people. Access uses a separate background core. You can close the Mac app window while the app remains running; see Interfaces for background service behavior and the available ways to connect. Access is not an agent sandbox. Read the security model to understand what its permission controls cover.

The main concepts

A useful first setup is one profile, one connection, and a bounded read operation. You can expand it after confirming the result.

Connect your first agent

Install Access and connect an MCP-compatible agent.

Set up a connector

Let an agent prepare a connection while you control credentials and scope.

Profiles and permissions

Understand grants, operations, and Configuration Mode.

Approvals and audit

Review requests and find out what happened.

Connection types and protocols

Explore files, local apps, MCP servers, online APIs, and databases.

Interfaces and daily work
